Dolly Parton ? The Queen of Country Music

Now on her way to her 62nd birthday on January 19, Dolly Parton is still as glamorous as ever. With her curves still seen when wearing body hugging, flamboyant dresses, she definitely does not look her age. She is the most celebrated and successful female artist in the Country genre with 25 singles that made it to number 1 on the Billboard Country Charts and 41 chart-topping country albums that soared to the Top 10. With countless awards under her belt, including 5 Grammy Awards, 3 American Music Awards, 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards and a citation as the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year, there is really no stopping Dolly Parton from reaching worldwide recognition.

In 1999, Dolly Parton became a Country Music Hall of Fame member. In 2001, she was given her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and then after, she was inducted as a member of the National Academy of Popular Songwriters Hall of Fame. Dolly’s recognition continued as she was given the Icon Award in 2003 and she was presented the Living Legend Award in 2004 by the US Library of Congress. In 2005, she was awarded the highest honor given by the US government for excellence in the field of the arts: the National Medal of Arts award. In 2006, Dolly was honored a lifetime achievement award by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Dolly was given the Johnny Mercer Award from the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame a year after. With a lot of recognitions and awards, Dolly’s ticket to fame is her distinct mountain soprano vocal range, which made countless hits such as “I Will Always Love You” (covered later by Whitney Houston), “Save the Last Dance for Me” and “Islands in the Stream”, a duet she made with Kenny Rogers.
