Dover 200 Brief history

Dover 200 is one of the major races of the NASCAR national wide car series. It takes place in the race track of Dover International Speedway situated at Dover, Delaware. The race track in Dover is unique as it has a length of 1 mile and the surface of the speedway is concrete. Because of the hard surface and its unhelpful effects on the racing car, it is widely known as the Monster Mile. The Dover 200 is the first race of the NASCAR Busch series to be held in Dover every racing season and it usually scheduled in the month of June.

The Dover 200 race driver should cover a distance of 200 laps or 200 miles and has been in existence since 1982. According to the NASCAR rules, the cars participating should have latest body styles with V6 engines and the cars can be similar to that of Winston Cup cars. The Busch beer company has been sponsoring this race event since 1984 and the race was renamed as Busch Grand National Series in 1986. From 2008, Dover 200 race will be sponsored by Nationwide Insurance which has got into a seven year contract with NASCAR.

The Dover 200 race of 2005 series witnessed two big crashes which led to the damage of a major portion of the racing field. Some of the most popular racing drivers to have won the Dover 200 race include Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Greg Biffle etc. The 2006 race was won by Jeff Burton and the 2007 Dover 200 was won by Carl Edwards. The Dover 200 NASCAR Nationwide 2008 series will be held on May 31st and it is expected that a large number of racing fans will be in Dover International Speedway to witness one of the hottest racing events of the year.
