Food City 250 Brief History

One of the most popular races of the NASCAR nationwide series is the Food City 250 which is held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. The steep banked all concrete track of the Bristol Motor Speedway prevents speeding that is typical in the NASCAR tracks and is similar to that of the Dover circuit except for the size of the track which is far shorter than that of Dover's. The earlier name of this race includes Jay Johnson, Free Service tires and Tri-City Pontiac and is now called Food City 250 as it is sponsored by the grocery chain corporate Food City.

The starting grid of this race contains about 43 cars that are arranged about halfway of the track. The slower qualified drivers are allowed to start the race half a lap below the highly ranked racers. The Food City 250 race track is considered to be the world's fastest half mile track and is rated as one among the top ten NASCAR annual car races. The tickets for the Food City 250 race are very difficult to obtain as more than 100,000 racing fans watch this event every year.

The recent winners of the Food City 250 are Matt Kenseth, Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne. The cars used are comparatively of less weight, power and with shorter wheel base to the cars of the Sprint Cup race.
