Big 12 Mens Football Championship Brief History

Big 12 Conference refers to the athletic meet of 12 schools which are in the central United States. The conference came into existence in Feb, 1994. It was formed when the Big eight conference got together with four Texas schools who belonged to the southwest conference. It was in 1996 that the competition started. Irving, Texas is the headquarters of the Big 12 conference.

The twelve members of the Big 12 conference are Iowa state university , University of Kansas, University of Colorado,  Kansas state university,  University of Missouri, University of Kansas, University of Oklahoma,  Oklahoma state university,  Texas state university,  Texas A&M University, University of Texas, Baylor University. The present commissioner is Dan Beebe. The sports which are sponsored by the Big 12 conference are: Basketball, Baseball, Tennis, Wrestling, Volleyball, Golf, Cross-country, Football, Gymnastics, Softball, Soccer, Track and field, swimming and diving.

There are quite a few of the best football teams in the Big 12. The winners in the south division play the winner in the north division for the conference champion. The football teams have to play a total of eight conference games in a season. The team has to face five opponents in its own division and three teams from the other division. The championship game id conducted annually at the Big 12 conference. It was in 1996 that the first game was played. From the 1996 season however, most of the championships have been played in the arrowhead stadium which is located in the Kansas City. the Big 12 is famous for inter school rivalries. In the 2007 championship Okalahoma won from the south division while Missouri represented the south division. Oklahoma won against Missouri in Alamo Dome to lift the conference championship trophy.
