The Bashas Supermarket 200 takes place at Phoenix International Raceway and is a NASCAR Nationwide Series race. As the name suggest, Bashas Supermarket 200 is sponsored by Bashas Supermarket. Bashas was the sponsor of the event, when per year track hosted only one Busch Series race. For the marketing purpose in 2005, the supermarket chain enthuse its sponsorship to the spring race. Bashas Supermarket 200 is the second division of NASCAR, and provides an enormous opportunity to its drivers to prove their capabilities by stepping up to the Nextel Cup.
The cars that are used by Bashas Supermarket 200 differs slightly then those used at Nextel Cup. At one point of time, the cars used during the Busch series were not at all used in the Cup series, but at present there is not much of a difference between the two. Due to the mounting importance of Busch series, the Bashas Supermarket 200 has gained popularity as well over the years. The drivers of Bashas Supermarket 200 and other race of Busch Series are often called as 'Busch -whackers'. Bashas Supermarket 200 is oftenly populated with Cup regular although it is a part of a minor league series. This mainly happens, when Busch race is scheduled to be held before the Nextel Cup race on Saturday and Nextel Cup on Sunday, which they generally follow.
