USG Sheetrock 400 Information

The Tropicana 400 is the old name of the present USG Sheetrock 400 race. It is a NASCAR Nextel Cup stock car race. It usually takes place at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois, which is a very modern speedway. Its present seating capacity is 75 thousand people. Beginning from its first season in 2001, the Chicagoland speedway became a real competitor for such events as NASCAR (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) and IRL (the Indy Racing League) races. The shape of the Chicagoland Speedway is a D-shaped oval, and it has eighteen turns.

The corporate Tropicana 400 sponsor is the United States Gypsum. The distance, the racers have to go, equals to 400 and a half miles (about 644 and a half km). In all, there are 267 laps to go.

The first game was held in 2001, thus it is a relatively young car race. Originally, it was called the Tropicana 400 race and was the eighteenth race of the season. It followed the Pepsi 400 race. All six years of the race history were marked by the legendary winners.

The fist two races winner was Kevin Harvick. He is a race car driver, who competes in the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Bush Series. His current car is GM Goodwrench/Reeses Chevrolet and Coast Guard Chevrolet. His first races were in carting, but in 1997 he became the member of the NASCAR Grand National Division.

Kevin Harvick has won several awards: in 1995 the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series Rookie of the year, in 2001 the Rookie of the year. In 1998 he won the Winston West Series Championship, in 2001 – the Bush Series Championship, in 2002 – the IROC Championship, and in 2006, again, the Bush Series Championship.

The 2006 winner of the USG Sheetrock 400 was Jeff Gordon. Jeffery Michael Gordon is race car driver, born in the United States. He began his racing career at the age of five. Being a teenager he won 3 short track races. In 1989 he was awarded with the USAC Midget Car Racing Rookie of the Year title. When he was only twenty years old he became the youngest racer to win the USAC Silver Crown Title. In 1993 he won another the Rookie of the Year title.

Kevin Harvick also became a four-time Winston championship winner (in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2001). In 1998 he was named one of the NASCARs (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) Fifty Greatest Drivers.
