MLB has another fascinating weekend

Every weekend in Major League Baseball brings something special, and the past weekend was no different. Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez picked up his eye popping 40th save of the season Sunday night, which turned out to be another MLB milestone. K-Rod became the fastest player to reach 40 saves in a season with his coming on the 98th game of the season. John Smoltz was the previous record holder with 40 saves through 108 games. In addition to this record breaking performance and great games, the weekend was also treated to Jim Thome’s 2,000th career hit. Thome joined a stellar list as he is the 252nd player to reach the milestone and 1 of 19 still active. The White Sox slugger also becomes only the 9th player to have 2,000 hits, 1,500 walks and 500 home runs. Both accomplishments continue to show the excitement that the MLB seasons bring every year and with half the 2008 season over, fans can only wonder what else is in store for the rest of the season.
