With so many rumors surfacing throughout the final hours of the MLB trade deadline, fans believed they were exactly that, rumors. With the deadline ending yesterday, MLB fans were thrown for a surprise when big name trades happened in the final day and moments. First thing in the morning, Ken Griffey Jr. was reportedly traded to the Chicago White Sox for Danny Richar and Nick Masset. This of course needed to be approved by Ken Griffey Jr. and the commissioner of the MLB, Bud Selig. Well when it was all said and done, Griffey became the newest member of the White Sox which surprised some because Chicago seemed to be set at DH and outfielders.
As surprising as this trade was, the MLB had a total mind blower for us in the final moments. Manny Ramirez had been saying how unhappy he was in Boston, and this goes with the old saying “Manny being Manny.” But in a turn of events, we witnessed Manny Ramirez get traded in a three team deal including the Red Sox, Dodgers and Pirates. Ramirez went to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jason Bay went to the Boston Red Sox, and Brandon Moss, Bryan Morris and two prospects (Andy LaRoche and Craig Hansen) went to the Pittsburgh Pirates. This truly was the biggest trade of the season and will make the rest of the MLB season that much better. This type of excitement could not be drawn up any better, and this is why Major League Baseball continues to keep us on the edge of our seats all year.
