The Iowa State Cyclones (or simply Clones) are the sports teams of the Iowa State University. The University participates in the Big Twelve Conference and the NCAA Division I. There are sixteen different teams in eleven sports. The mens sports are basketball, cross-country, football, golf, track and field, and wrestling. The womens sports are basketball, cross country, golf, track and field, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball.

The nickname of the sports teams of the Iowa University is the Cyclones. The name has a century-old history as it dates back to 1895. That year America suffered several severe cyclones, or tornados as they were once called. Every year, beginning from 1977, there is a special game (called the Cy-Hawk series) between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Cyclones, who have always been the fiercest rivals. The winner of the game gets the Cy-Hawk Trophy. Out of thirty games the Iowa State Cyclones became the winners ten times (1978, 1980-1982, 1998-2002, and 2005).

There is a special award that is given every year to the most valuable Cyclones player. It is called Ralph A. Olsen Award (he was an old friend of Iowa state athletics).
