About Wake Forest Football

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team represents Wake Forest University, which is a private, coeducational university situated in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. At the beginning, the Wake Forest team was called the Deacons, as long as it was associated with the Baptist Convention. Nevertheless, in 1941, after a brilliant victory over the Duke Blue Devils team, one newspaper reporter suggested that the Deacons played just like Demons. This is how the present name of the team originated.

Wake Forest University is known to have won seven national competitions in three different types of sports. The school is said to be a member of the Tobacco Road, or the Big Four. The term refers to the four North Carolina Universities, which are the oldest rivals within the ACC, which include Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Wake Forest.

The Demon Deacons football team takes part in the NCAA's Division I-A and in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Wake Forest advanced to the Top 25 in the USA according to the AP Poll during most of the 2006 season. The team became a champion in the 2006 ACC Atlantic Division and the 2006 ACC Conference Tournament, having won over the Georgia Tech football team with the score of 9-6 on December 2 in the ACC Championship Game in Jacksonville, FL. The victory allowed the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to participate in the Orange Bowl in order to play against the Big East winner Louisville. This makes the Wake Forest University the smallest college, which ever participated in the Bowl Championship Series. Compared to all other schools taking part in Division I-A football, Rice and Tulsa Universities are the only ones with fewer undergraduate students. The Wake Forest football team plays all home games at the Groves Stadium.

The number of students attending Wake Forest football games is particularly high. Partially, this is because of the program called Screamin Demons. At the beginning of each sports season students can enroll for the program, paying $30 dollars for a team-shirt and card, which serves as the pass to the sports games. They may lose the advantages of the pass if they are absent from at least two of the games. This inspires the teams fans to come to every game. Football game tickets in the student area, especially near the opponent fans, can sometimes be difficult to get without being a member of the Screamin Demon program. Although such students are guaranteed a seat, they sometimes still have to fight through the night to get the best tickets. Nevertheless, you do not have to worry about the tickets if you wish to attend the game of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. You can simply purchase your tickets through Vividseats.com. Vivid Seats is an exclusive ticket broker, specializing in selling tickets for most upcoming sports events.
