UFC tickets are at a premium with Rampage Jackson, star of both octagon and screen, returning to fighting this month. Jackson signed a six-match deal with UFC in March and we'll begin his road back to the light heavyweight championship facing Rashad Evans. Giving the match further intrigue is the fact that Jackson and Evans have long had bad blood towards one another. Rampage doesn't think much of his opponents' skills, dubbing the match a warm-up for a title shot with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
A former light heavyweight champion in his own right, Evans likely deserves more respect than Rampage is giving him. Both fighters come from a wrestling background and are grizzled MMA veterans, so experts are forseeing a close match on May 29th in Las Vegas. You will also see Jackson in the upcoming movie, The A-Team, as B.A. Baracus. You know UFC is becoming a major sport in the United States when fights like Rampage vs. Evans (a match where a title isn't even on the line) is getting this level of publicity. If Rampage defeats Evans and gets a shot again at the title, it could be huge for UFC. We'll see how things play out at the end of the month at the MGM Grand before we get too excited about a possible Rampage-Shogun bout.
