• US Looks to Stomp Swedes

After some convincing, multiple-goal wins over Cuba and most recently Guatemala, the USA Men’s soccer team has a lot to be confident about. They are playing some extremely cohesive team ball and are capitalizing on their finishing chances. As a team, they can now rest for the remainder of 2008. However, they will be called back into action shortly after the ball drops and 2009 rolls in, as they are scheduled to face off against the perennial talent Sweden on January 24 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. This is definitely not a match that the US can afford to take lightly. With no condescension really intended, Cuba and Guatemala are far removed from the quality of nearly any team in the European continent. Unfortunately for the US (and its fans), too much confidence is usually built up during these warm up games, ultimately leading to a grave disappointment when the World Cup comes around and the US gets manhandled. Hopefully, the US can just focus on the task at hand and continue to play with the same inspiration that they’ve played with so far. Sweden will be a tough matchup but will be perfect to test out the skills of the 2010 USA World Cup roster.
