This year might be a watershed season for the Minnesota Vikings. They have a real quality team that led them to an NFC North championship last year. The strength of their offense was previously Adrian Peterson, a great running back. He is still a major strength for this team and it’s going to be exciting to see the kinds of numbers that he’ll be able to put up in the 2009 season. The team has improved it’s offensive line, so it will be easier for him to get some more yards out of each run. But the importance of having a better offensive line goes beyond that: this week, the Vikings picked up Brett Favre, who decided that he wasn’t going to retire yet after all. As a quarterback, he has had one of the best careers in recent memory. He led the Packers admirably for many years and almost got the Jets into the postseason last year, until he got injured. He had an operation this offseason and will be close to normal power this season. While the team hasn’t yet shown much on the field, it does look like they could win the NFC North title again and maybe get deep into the playoffs. Last year was a struggle, but with a future Hall of Fame quarterback on their team, as well as the continued great play of both offense and defense, this will be a team that has a great chance for success.
