    Tour announcement

In honor of the band’s 20th anniversary, the Backstreet Boys have re-emerged in the form of a new album, documentary, and summer tour. Named “In a World like This,” after the forthcoming album, the tour boasts special guests Jesse McCartney and Jersey Shore star DJ Pauly D for select dates and marks the first time in 10 years that all five original members will be on hand to perform.

It’s hard to forget the days when the Backstreet Boys ruled the airwaves, especially once MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL) really took off in 1999. The group’s video for “I Want It That Way” was named one of the most iconic music videos by TRL alongside Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” Kid Rock’s “Bawitdaba” and Blink-182’s “What’s My Age Again.” A few of their comrades from the TRL days have remained household names over the years, as evidenced by Christina Aguilera’s stint as a judge on “The Voice,” Kid Rock as his partying self on his Rebel Soul tour, ‘N Sync’s Justin Timberlake embarking on a major stadium tour this summer with Jay-Z, and Britney Spears’ future residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

Now, the Backstreet Boys are ready to step back into the spotlight, and kicked things off May 15 with a sneak preview of the new album, which is set to drop on July 30. Check out the video below for a live performance of the album’s first single, “Permanent Stain,” on “Good Morning America.”

In regards to the 20th anniversary celebration, the Backstreet Boys will be bringing it back old school for the tour by working on choreography that hasn’t been seen in over a decade—most notably, their “As Long As You Love Me” mic and hat routines. After wrapping up overseas performances earlier in the summer, the Backstreet Boys tour will launch in the U.S. on Aug. 2 for the first of over 20 North American dates beginning at Charter One Pavilion in Chicago, Ill. With just over a month of performances planned, opportunities to catch all five members in action will be limited so be sure to purchase your Backstreet Boys tickets early.

Fans last saw the Backstreet Boys in action with New Kids on the Block as part of the 2011-12 NKOTBSB venture, though this time around, each respective group will be headlining its own summer-long stint. New Kids on the Block tickets are currently on sale in the marketplace for “The Package Tour” that also includes 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, and will begin on May 28.

Another 90s favorite, Hanson, also is returning to the stage this year, just in time for the release of the group’s 11th studio album, “Anthem,” which is set to drop in June. Hanson tour dates will encompass the world, highlighted by North American shows in major cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Vancouver, and Winnipeg from July to November.
