Late-night talk show host Chelsea Handler is planning to publish her fifth book, “Uganda Be Kidding Me,” on Nov. 4, 2014, and just in time for the book to hit shelves, the award-winning comedian will embark on a spring tour in support of the release. The tour will mark the first time the burgeoning star has embarked on a stand-up venture in nearly two years.
With the initial announcement on Jan. 7, Handler confirmed 31 dates for her Uganda Be Kidding Me Live Tour, which is scheduled to kick off in New York on March 4, the same day as the book's release, with a special “In Conversation” event hosted by Ronan Farrow. Stand-up performances are also scheduled for cities like Boston (March 7), Chicago (March 9), San Francisco (March 21), Miami Beach, Fla. (April 4), Minneapolis (April 13), and Pittsburgh (May 10). In the middle of the tour, Handler will appear on stage in Glendale, Calif., on March 11 for another “In Conversation” event, this time hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow. The final two shows will bring Handler back to her home state of New Jersey to perform at Caesars in Atlantic City on May 25.
Although she has revealed few details about the tour material, Handler has explained that her book will feature anecdotes about her experiences traveling, including an adventure on an African safari, a visit to the London Olympics, and a trip to Yellowstone National Park. As the tour takes its name from the forthcoming publication, it’s safe to say fans in attendance at her live shows will be treated to a number of the comedian’s outrageous travel stories.
In addition to Handler, many other comedians also will be out in full force in 2014, as detailed in the list below.
“Parks and Recreation” star Aziz Ansari had a successful 2013 with his critically acclaimed comedy special “Buried Alive,” but the rising star is staying busy with a brand new tour in 2014. His forthcoming venture, the Modern Romance Tour, will address how 21st-century dating is affected by technological advances like cell phones and social media. On Feb. 5, he confirmed a slew of new dates for the upcoming venture, which is slated to launch on March 7. As of Feb. 6, the final stop on the tour is scheduled for Chicago on May 21, but Ansari has also promised to add more cities to the trek at a later date.
Since the premiere of her Comedy Central show “Inside Amy Schumer,” this talented comedian has been rising in popularity. In addition to working on her feature film debut with producer Judd Apatow, Amy Schumer is currently on the road for a spring 2014 tour ahead of her show’s second season premiere in April. More than 30 cities are on tap for the ongoing Inside Amy Schumer’s Back Door Tour, which began on Jan. 24 and will run through April 5.
Comedian Katt Williams planned to go into retirement at the end of 2012, but the outlandish star couldn’t stay away from the stage for long, having performed in several cities during his Katt Is Back Tour in 2013. Now, the comedian is showing a new side of himself with the 2014 Growth Spurt Tour. The trek kicked off in January and will stop in cities like Atlanta (Feb. 7), Chicago (March 21), Detroit (March 29), and New Orleans (April 5), before wrapping up in Kansas City, Mo., on May 9.
More Comedy on the Way from Jerry Seinfeld, Gabriel Iglesias, and Bill Maher
The much-anticipated “Seinfeld” reunion highlighted in a 2014 Super Bowl commercial put the spotlight on Jerry Seinfeld and his popular web series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” You can see the beloved New York native continue his stand-up career this year as well with dates currently scheduled through the end of July. Sometimes better known as “Fluffy,” comic Gabriel Iglesias also has a host of stand-up dates lined up through the summer months, including stops in San Jose, Calif. (Feb. 28-March 1), St. Louis (March 15), New Orleans (April 4), Anchorage, Alaska (May 17). Political commentator Bill Maher also is planning to take time out of his TV hosting duties for a new tour that kicks off Feb. 8 in Mobile, Ala. Maher has appearances on tap through October.
