Another popular Broadway adaptation is based on Disney’s 1992 film, “Newsies.” The Tony Award-winning musical details the lives of several newspaper delivery boys who decide to go on strike when the New York World raises the cost of newspapers to delivery boys, who can’t afford the increase. The musical features songs from the original movie, as well as new pieces to accentuate the storyline. The show has been running in New York since 2012, and may possibly be touring overseas in London in early 2014.

Cinderella the Musical” made its Broadway debut in 2013, and went on to earn multiple Tony nominations, including a win for Best Costume Design of a Musical. The classic fairytale has a contemporary twist, which gives audiences a fresh take on the beloved story with a few additional subplots thrown into the mix. The colorful, fun costumes and dancing make for an exciting show that the whole family is sure to enjoy.

This production is sure to take you to a “Whole New World” with music by Alan Menken and book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin. The show will be taking over for “Mary Poppins,” which was on Broadway for over 2,600 performances since 2006.

Another promising upcoming production is “The Jungle Book,” which is set to hit Chicago’s Goodman Theatre from June 21 through Aug. 4. A stocked cast accompanies Mary Zimmerman’s book and music, as audiences can’t help but fall in love again with Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale of Mowgli’s adventures in the animal kingdom.

Rumors have also been swirling about the possibility of Broadway adaptations of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Dumbo,” and Disney has noted that it has around 10 different projects currently in the works.
