Live event fans have been treated to a virtually endless supply of major concert tours this year, and that trend is likely to continue well in 2014. While plenty of concert news has already been revealed from artists like Miley Cyrus and Arcade Fire, a few more notable events and performers recently joined the list late in November, with some of our favorites featured below.
Florida Country Superfest to Debut in June 2014
In the same vein as May’s Bayou Country Superfest, the forthcoming Florida Country Superfest will make its triumphant debut at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field, June 14-15. Borrowing from other established country music festivals taking over venues year after year, the inaugural Florida Country Superfest 2014 lineup is chock-full of notable names, boasting the likes of Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Little Big Town, Florida Georgia Line, and Big & Rich, among others.
Katy Perry Reveals International Dates for Prismatic World Tour
Fans have been patiently waiting for some real Katy Perry tour news ever since the singer re-emerged in August with “Roar,” the first single off her latest studio album, “Prism.” Isolated appearances at the iHeartRadio Music Festival and Hollywood Bowl helped hype the October album release, and then at last, on Nov. 18, Perry came through with the initial round of dates for her Prismatic World Tour. Though they are all international shows set for May 7-30, it’s only the beginning, as the singer herself confirmed that more global dates are coming soon, and also teased via Twitter that she “can’t wait get closer to ALL of you than ever before!”
Lady Gaga, Billy Joel Add New York Shows
Two other musicians still expected to formally announce major tours at some point, New York natives Lady Gaga and Billy Joel continue to book shows sporadically in the meantime, with the latest round keeping the duo in the Big Apple.
Lady Gaga is set to take the stage at Manhattan’s Roseland Ballroom for four shows next spring (March 28, 30-31, April 2), in what will be the final concerts ever at the 3,500-seat hall that has been a staple of Midtown’s theater district since 1919. The March 28 show, incidentally, will take place on Gaga’s Golden Birthday, so it’s fair to perhaps expect a little something extra on that date to help commemorate the occasion. The “ARTPOP” singer has been absent from the regular tour circuit since early 2013, when untimely hip surgery forced the cancelation of all remaining Born This Way Ball dates.
Billy Joel, meanwhile, will headline a different historic, albeit much larger, venue when he returns to Madison Square Garden on Jan. 27 for his first show inside the building since his historic 12-night run in 2006 (except for the 12-12-12 Benefit Concert). Joel also will return to MSG on Feb. 3, the day after the New York/New Jersey-hosted Super Bowl, and then again on March 21 and April 18. The "Piano Man" also is set to make his Barclays Center debut on New Year’s Eve and has four Florida dates lined up for January as well.
Journey and Steve Miller Band to Co-Headline North American Venture
As if the news that Paul Simon and Sting would be sharing the stage for the first time ever wasn’t exciting enough, fans of the Steve Miller Band and Journey were treated to a similar announcement confirming that the classic rockers will be co-headlining a lengthy North American tour in 2014. Along with opener, Tower of Power, the trio of legendary rock bands will take over outdoor venues from May-August, playing nearly 40 dates in all.
Brand New to Play Complete Albums for East and West Coast Fans
Taking a page out of the Blink-182 playbook, Brand New has lined up a limited run of shows in which the band will play albums from its discography in their entirety. Save for spare appearances at events like Riot Fest, fans have had few chances to catch a live performance by Brand New in recent years, but lucky supporters on the East and West Coast will have the opportunity to see the group in action before the year’s up. Brand New will play consecutive nights at The Observatory in Santa Ana, Calif. (Dec. 9-10), before heading back across the country for a show at The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y. (Dec. 20) and Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, N.J. (Dec. 21).
