Hello Dolly

Did you know that Dolly Parton wrote a musical? She sings, she dances, she writes musicals! It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? But her musical 9 to 5 is going to start its run on Broadway in just a matter of weeks. If the name sounds familiar, it will be because there was a movie by the same name in 1980. In fact, the movie was the original version of the musical; there wasn’t a stage show first. The song, “9 to 5”, from the movie, earned Parton an Academy Award nomination and was all over the charts in 1980. Then we didn’t hear about this musical for awhile. But now it’s back! It was first given a public reading on January 19, 2007, where people got the chance to experience it again, but live for the first time. The cast is now chosen, with great actors like Allison Janney (of West Wing fame) and Stephanie J. Block in the ensemble.
