On July 23, the iHeartRadio Music Festival 2014 lineup was officially released, and the roster of musicians booked for this year’s event is sure to go down as one of the best in the event’s history. The festival will return to Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena from Sept. 19-20, and you can take in the incredible lineup on either day when you buy your iHeartRadio Music Festival tickets from Vivid Seats.
On Friday, two acts that have been largely absent from the North American touring circuit this year--Taylor Swift and Coldplay--will be featured performers. Swift just completed her international Red Tour in June, supporting her album of the same name that featured the top-10 singles “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Coldplay, meanwhile, has been making waves with its 2014 album Ghost Stories, the long-awaited follow-up to 2011’s Mylo Xyloto. In 2014, the group has only performed in eight cities around the world to promote the release, so the upcoming iHeartRadio Music Festival appearance will be a special one for fans of the GRAMMY Award-winning outfit.
The remaining performers on Friday are sure to amp up the energy before Swift and Coldplay take the stage, as hip-hop stars Nicki Minaj and Usher, EDM icon Steve Aoki, and soon-to-be-retired rock band Mötley Crüe are all on tap for the event. Country fans will also get to watch Zac Brown Band perform on Friday, along with British rock outfit Bastille, whose single “Pompeii” has spent nearly 50 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100 as of July 23.
A new band, Before You Exit, won Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star competition this year, and as a result, the Florida-based pop outfit will get to join the roster of performers set to appear on Friday. The group, which is made up of brothers Connor, Riley, and Toby McDonough, won first place in the fan-decided contest after a total of more than seven million votes were cast.
The next night, One Direction will headline the MGM Grand Garden Arena in the middle of its Where We Are Stadium Tour. The appearance will be the band’s only scheduled stop in Las Vegas for the duration of its North American venture in support of 2013’s Midnight Memories. Fellow British musician Ed Sheeran also will return to Las Vegas to close out the North American leg of his 2014 tour backing his own chart-topping release, x.
Also on Saturday, Scottish DJ Calvin Harris is slated to perform a set, along with the Hayley Williams-fronted rock outfit Paramore. Pop group Train will appear in support of its forthcoming album, Bulletproof Picasso, and there will also be sets from 2014 Song of the Year GRAMMY winner Lorde and country singer-songwriter Eric Church.
Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande, who are still alive in the Billboard Hot 100 with their singles “Fancy” and “Problem,” are both also on the iHeartRadio Music Festival bill for 2014. Grande is scheduled to perform on Friday, while Azalea will follow with a set on Saturday. There’s no word on whether or not the two are planning to collaborate during their performances on either day.
In addition to the main festival stage at the MGM Grand, the iHeartRadio Music Festival Village will return with a collection of artists that will perform on Saturday, Sept. 20 outside the arena. Iggy Azalea will headline the iHeartRadio Village ahead of her appearance at the main festival, and she’ll be joined by MAGIC!, the Canadian band that ended her seven-week reign at No. 1 on the Hot 100 on July 16 with its hit “Rude.” Kacey Musgraves will perform selections from her 2014 GRAMMY Award-winning album, Same Trailer Different Park, and fans will be able to see additional sets from 5 Seconds of Summer, Neon Trees, Childish Gambino, Lil Jon, Nico and Vinz, and The Pretty Reckless.
