Throughout the year, Billboard charts help us keep tabs on the country’s most popular music on a weekly basis, but the annual Billboard Music Awards take a cumulative look at those results to honor the most successful musicians of the entire year. On May 18, the 2014 ceremony will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas under the direction of this year’s host, Ludacris, and with Billboard Music Awards tickets from Vivid Seats, you can join the audience for this elite industry celebration.
Following the tradition of previous years, an impressive arsenal of artists is on tap to perform at the event this Sunday. Most recently announced on the schedule is Shakira. Although the Colombian singer is not up for any awards in 2014, she released her first album in almost four years in March. Another pop diva, Katy Perry, will sing her latest single “Birthday” at this Sunday night event. Perry is in the running for many awards at the upcoming ceremony, thanks to her hit album Prism and its multi-Platinum singles “Roar” and “Dark Horse.” Miley Cyrus, who enjoyed a major reinvention period with her chart-topping Bangerz album, also will perform, as will John Legend, who earned his first No. 1 single just two weeks before the ceremony with the song “All of Me.”
Of course, the Billboard Music Awards aren’t only about pop music—several big country acts will take the stage during the show, including Luke Bryan, the only country artist in the running for the Top Billboard 200 Album of 2014. Florida Georgia Line also will perform at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The twosome broke Billboard records last summer when its single “Cruise” spent 22 weeks at No. 1 on the country singles chart. Another duo, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood, will sing “Somethin’ Bad,” a duet from Lambert’s forthcoming album.
A handful of newcomers also will be spotlighted at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, including Top New Artist nominee Lorde, One Direction tour opener 5 Seconds of Summer, and Imagine Dragons. Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea also will be on hand to perform their new single “Problem,” featured below.
This year’s three biggest awards—Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Song, and Top Billboard 200 Album—are up for grabs between a number of noteworthy artists. Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and Imagine Dragons are all in the running for Top Artist. Cyrus and Perry are also finalists for Top Hot 100 Song, with “Wrecking Ball” and “Roar,” respectively. Lorde’s “Royals,” Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” are all up for the award as well. Meanwhile, top album recognition will be going to one of the following acts: Luke Bryan, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Drake, or Beyoncé.
As of May 14, there are also three artists qualifying for the fan-voted Milestone Award: OneRepublic, Carrie Underwood, and Ellie Goulding. You can vote online for your favorite up through the first two hours of the ceremony on Sunday night.
