On Sept. 2, major American musical acts Maroon 5 and Usher separately announced intentions to return to the road in 2014-15 to support their latest albums, both of which are follow-ups to previous 2012 releases. The upcoming tours, coincidentally headlined by former The Voice co-stars, will include North American legs at major arenas set to begin in the coming months.
On the heels of the release of its fifth studio album, the aptly titled V which dropped earlier in the day, Maroon 5 confirmed Sept. 2 that the band will be setting off on an international tour in 2015. The Maroon 5 World Tour will launch from Dallas’ American Airlines Center on Feb. 16, and the 27-date North American leg will wrap up on April 3 at the L.A. Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Canadian reggae outfit MAGIC!--which reached the top of the U.S. and U.K. charts with its debut single, “Rude”--will join the tour as Maroon 5’s special guest, as will rising singer-songwriter Rozzi Crane, who was the first artist signed to Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine’s record label, 222 Records.
The Sept. 2 release of the album V was preceded by the album’s first two singles. “Maps,” which dropped on June 16, peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was followed by the release of “Animals” on Aug. 25. Early reviews of the album show mostly positive views from critics at Billboard and Rolling Stone, among other publications.
On the same day Maroon 5 announced its 2015 plans, R&B icon Usher confirmed specifics for 28 dates of his UR Experience Tour, set to begin in Nov. 2014. Usher will be on the road backing his forthcoming release, tentatively titled UR, which will showcase the singles “She Came to Give It to You” and “Good Kisser.” The album does not yet have an official release date.
In all, Usher is planning to include at least 28 dates on his fall venture, which is slated to begin on Nov. 1 at Montreal’s Bell Centre and stop in cities like Philadelphia (Nov. 11), Chicago (Nov. 17), Vancouver (Nov. 27), and his hometown of Atlanta (Dec. 9) before the final show in Tampa, Fla. (Dec. 14). New Orleans hip-hop artist August Alsina and New York-based DJ Cassidy will open most dates of the venture. The upcoming fall tour will mark Usher’s first full-fledged headlining venture since his 2010-11 OMG Tour.
