With the new season roughly 13 1/2 days away from opening night tipoff, let’s take a quick preview at a few prominent NBA teams. Starting with the returning champions the Boston Celtics, the preseason portends a great regular season and (most likely) postseason. The Celtics are 3-1 in preseason exhibition play and return with the powerful triumvirate of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen, all of whom have averaged well over 10 points per game. But then again, everyone will be gunning for the Celtics, including Kobe and his Los Angeles Lakers. After falling just short of taking the NBA crown last year, the Lakers have never wanted the title more badly. Expect Kobe to up the ante on his already incredible game-play standard. The Cleveland Cavaliers are yet another team always in the hunt. Led by (now world famous after the Beijing Olympics) LeBron James, the Cavaliers have all the leadership, charisma, and talent needed to make this their year. The New York Knicks, after an impressive display in a matchup against Philadelphia last night (albeit a loss), have given their fans quite a lot to hope for. The fire and intensity of the players and new head coach Mike D’Antoni were refreshing to the long-despondent New York fans. As for the 6-time World Champion Chicago Bulls, not even a winless preseason is enough to keep fans from hoping for the best. Between Nocioni and Noah, the Bulls will look to get a lot done in the paint this year. They’ve also got college standout star and number one draft pick Derrick Rose to pin some hopes on.
