The relationship between the stage and the silver screen goes back many, many years, and has long been a healthy one. It’s as commonplace for theater productions to spawn movies as it is for a Hollywood flick to make its way to Broadway. And though the stories remain the same, each particular art form puts its own unique touch on familiar plots and characters, leaving audiences with a fresh, yet welcoming experience they won’t soon forget.
The latest Broadway production to get the Hollywood treatment is the timeless classic, Les Miserables. Scheduled to hit (movie) theaters on Dec. 25, the film features A-list stars such as Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Russell Crowe, and is expected to be an Oscar contender in March. As one of the longest running musicals, it also is still performed at venues across the country, so check out our stock of Les Miserables tickets for the opportunity to catch a live performance as well.
It’s been almost 10 years since "The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz" first cast its spell on audiences all over the country, but still, Wicked tickets remain a hot commodity as the box office haul continues to grow thanks to its unique and entertaining tale. In a similar twist on the old classic, Hollywood has opted for the prequel route in the form of Oz the Great and Powerful, which is due out on March 8, 2013, and stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, and Michelle Williams.
To no one’s surprise, Disney continues to be wildly popular in just about everything it does. Whether it’s the best-selling musical production of The Lion King on Broadway, or one of the many Disney On Ice variations skating through venues from coast to coast, the magic of “The Happiest Place on Earth” can be found at each memorable performance.
Speaking of Disney, 2012 brought the Broadway debut of Newsies the Musical, based on the 1992 film and cult classic starring Christian Bale. The stage adaptation has been solid in its run at New York’s Nederlander Theatre thus far, so be sure to pick up Newsies the Musical tickets of your own and see the show everyone is talking about.
The critical acclaim and ridiculous box office numbers that accompany the highly sought after The Book of Mormon tickets has led many to believe it’s only a matter of time before the story hits the big screen. For now, you can still catch the production in several different cities across the U.S., including Chicago, where the Tony winner finally made its debut not too long ago.
Though the holiday season is winding down, many opportunities still remain to see the likes of Elf, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and A Christmas Story brought to life on stage. Yuletide veterans such as The Nutcracker, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and A Christmas Carol are also back and squeezing in several shows through the end of December.
