On July 30, 5 Seconds of Summer revealed North American dates for its extensive 2015 headlining tour, with the U.S. leg scheduled to kick off next July. The announcement comes on the same day the young Australian pop rock outfit rocketed to the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 with the U.S. release of its self-titled debut, which sold more than 250,000 copies in its first week. This huge achievement is a first for any Australian act in the history of the long-running albums chart.
Though it won’t begin until next summer, the band’s Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour will be an extensive one, stretching over the course of two months with stops in at least 30 cities. The first date of the 2015 5SOS tour will take place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on July 17, and the trek will end on the opposite coast on Sept. 13 at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Fla. It might seem like 5 Seconds of Summer exploded out of nowhere earlier this year, but the pop rock quartet has been steadily building its fan base for the past three years with an impressive social media presence. In its native Australia, the group has reached the top 10 with all its 2014 releases--including the lead single “She Looks So Perfect,” as well as “Don’t Stop” and the recently released “Amnesia.” As evidenced by its first-week sales in the U.S., the group has also earned considerable success internationally. The debut album has hit No. 1 in more than 10 countries, and it even earned Silver certification (60,000 album units sold) within a month of its release in the U.K.
If you can’t wait until next summer to see this band stateside, there will be a few opportunities to see 5SOS on stage in North America in the remaining months of 2014. Beginning in August, the band will join with another international pop outfit, One Direction, for the U.K. band’s first North American stadium tour, which will stop in 20 cities from Aug. 1-Oct. 5. 5SOS also has a couple of solo performances planned for November, including shows in Phoenix (Nov. 13) and Los Angeles (Nov. 15-16).
