With the Wild Card weekend over and done with (and for once it was a very exciting set of games), there will be no more bye weeks for any teams. It's do or die, win or go home, put up or shut up, do better than the guys in the different colored jerseys, et cetera. And with only three games to win, the NY Giants are seemingly in a strong position to repeat their Super Bowl glory of last year. Last year's Wild Card and this year's favorite, the Giants' road begins this Sunday against Philadelphia. And while it seems that all the statistics and skill are on the Giants' side, they are also coming out of an end-of-the-season rut in which they lost 3 of their last 4 games, one of those against the Eagles. So how will the momentum fall? With the Eagles, who have the psychological advantage (as well as their hot streak of winning 5 of their last 6 games)? Or will the recently humbled Giants look to avenge their losses/embarassments? It may come down to a straight battle of skill versus will. Regardless of the outcome, however, this rubber match is definitely going to be exciting. It's definitely one of those games you'll want to reserve your Giants playoff tickets for, so that you won't miss a single snap.
He's the original bad boy gone good, or at least one of the originals. Merle Haggard's upbringing was anything but steady. Born in 1937 to impovershed parents, Merle turned to crime shortly after his dad died. At age 13, he was caught for his first crime of shoplifting (a crime to be repeated quite frequently) and he spent time in a juvenile detention center. After numerous more apprehensions, including a 3 year stint in San Quentin where he saw Johnny Cash perform, Haggard decided to turn his life around and pursue his dream of country music. It was in 1964 when he first released a national hit, "Sing A Sad Song," a cover of Wynn Stewart. From that point on, Merle has enjoyed thorough success. Although his last big hit was in the mid 80s, Merle continued to perform until he was diagnosed with cancer in one of his lungs in November of 2008. However, he has not only recovered from it, he is ready to hit the road again. Check out our Merle Haggard concert tickets and catch one of his upcoming shows!
Jumping motorcycles. Big hilly dirt racecourses. What else could this be besides the AMA Super Cross? If you’ve never heard of this sport before, you are really missing out! These aren’t just regular motorcycles though. They are designed especially for off-road use and are very high performance. But this isn’t the same as Motocross. Super Cross is an offshoot of Motocross, but they generally only race in larger cities and the racecourses are more technical and a little slower. Some people watch it for the jumps, some people watch it for the cool motorcycles, others watch for the wipeouts! There’s really something for everyone in Super Cross. Last year, a racer name Chad Reed won the Super Cross AMA championship, which he also won in 2004. He has also won several championships in his native Australia. A whole new season is going to begin, and you really should see some of the competitions this year. Can Reed defend his championship? There’s going to be an event in your city and you should take it in. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the sport or a long-time fan. Take a look at our AMA Super Cross tickets and see a great race!
Have you ever waited for someone for a long time? Someone that just never seems to arrive? You already have an idea of how the two main characters in Waiting for Godot, Vladimir and Estragon, feel. They are waiting for a man named Godot. They keep trying to do something to keep from getting too bored while waiting. Samuel Beckett wrote the play in the early 50s and it premiered on the January 5, 1953. It was an instant success and has been produced many times since then. It has become one of the modern classics and various interpretations of the play have been performed over the years. There have been versions with two women playing Vladimir and Estragon. Beckett himself hasn’t been all that enthused by the prospect of two women, because it doesn’t fit in with his vision. The current production of Waiting for Godot has the great actors Bill Irwin and Nathan Lane, with John Goodman in a supporting role. Take a look at Waiting for Godot at Studio 54 and find tickets to see a great show!
Back in the 1920s, a delightful mistake gave birth to one of the most entertaining shows in history. According to folklore, an exhibition game between two local Chicago basketball teams was scheduled to take place in the Savoy Ballroom. The only problem was that the local Vaudevillian team Globes & Trotter was scheduled there as well. So with a double booking to deal with (as well as thousands of anxious spectators), a quick compromise was reached: Let the comedy troupe join in on one of the teams. Though they hadn't the skill of their teammates or opponents, the audience fell in love with their outlandish antics (including the use of a ladder to slam dunk the ball). Despite being kicked out of the game on account of 13 collective technical fouls (including use of oil slicks, confetti, and dangerously long hook shots), they were invited to play with the team again the following night...and the night after...and the night after. Soon the team was no longer the Harlem Sting but the Harlem Globetrotters, and history was made. Since their inception in 1926, the Harlem Globetrotters have entertained over 118 countries in thousands of matches, and they are still going strong. Take a look at our Harlem Globetrotters tickets and experience this incredibly entertaining show today!
For more than 30 years, Bonnie Raitt has been one of the biggest names in the Blues singing world. With her great "bottle-neck" guitar style and unique style of singing, she is able to impress both blues connoiseurs and regular concert goers. Her website describes her as "an American institution" which sounds about right. Almost anyone will recognize her singing and many of her songs have become a major part of the sound of American blues in the last quarter century. And it's no wonder: her dad was a famous actor in Broadway musicals and her mom a well-known pianist/accompanist. The music she heard inspired her to create great music of her own. She is, in fact, a 9-time Grammy Award winner and still tours extensively. Earlier this year, she appeared on the radio program A Prairie Home Companion, where she sang "No Getting Over You" and "There Ain't Nothin' in Ramblin'." She hasn’t released a studio album since 2005, called Souls Alike that is considered to be a great album, as was her more recent compilation Bonnie Raitt and Friends. Next year, though, she will be touring in several American cities. She will probably be appearing near you. Take a look at the schedule and then buy your Bonnie Raitt tickets today!
After Week 12 was said and done, the Philadelphia Eagles stood at as even of a record as possible: 5-5-1 (The 1 of course being a tie). While this is not necessarily a bad record, it was certainly an abysmal record to have in the highly competitive NFC East, where the Giants already had 10-plus victories, Dallas with 8, and the Redskins with 7. But as time crept on, the Eagles silently won in the background while Dallas and Washington imploded. However, even at the end of last week when the Eagles improved their record to 8-6-1, they were still well behind in the wild card hunt. But, in a Sunday full of crucial matchups with heavy playoff implications, everything, absolutely everything went right for the Philadelphia Eagles. They need Tampa Bay to lose, they lost. They needed Chicago to lose, they lost. They need Dallas to lose, they (Philadelphia) pounded them (Dallas) 44-6. That tie game which looked so ominous over a month ago became the saving grace for the Eagles. Their 9-6-1 record beat out all of the other 9-7 teams, and stood as a strong testament to the will and determination of McNabb and the rest of the Eagles. They now have at least one more game to play for, and with the slates wiped clean, Philly has just as much a chance to win it all as any one else. Perhaps more so, considering the hot streak they're on. Follow them into the postseason with our great 2009 Philadelphia Eagles playoff tickets!
Over 30 years of time have passed since U2 first came onto the music scene. They first formed in 1978 as a bunch of teenagers playing rock music, but they weren’t considered a great band until the mid-80s. With Bono and Co., this is still a top act in the world. U2 is in the process of producing a new album, which is supposed to be released in March, but that hasn’t been officially announced yet. From the background accounts coming out of the recording studio, this may be one of their best albums yet, with the band making some great musical leaps over their previous efforts. About a month ago, they released a new single album, called "I Believe in Father Christmas". This song isn’t original to them, but they covered a new version. As you can imagine, with a new album coming out soon, there will probably be a tour. Nothing has been announced for sure, but everyone’s hoping they get back out on the road. Don’t you want to see them too? See our U2 tickets and Vivid Seats will keep you posted on the latest developments.
We've played 15, there is one game to go! It's time to get serious about this. The NFL season is coming to an end. But now we have to take a look at who might be the real winners this year. There are several playoff spots still to be decided. And everything will be decided tomorrow and the next day (although some tiebreakers could happen in the first playoff week. Some of the best teams this year are Tennessee and the New York Giants. Tennessee is a bit of a surprise, but they went a long time this year with no losses at all. New York has played great so far, and has remained consistently strong. Arizona also claimed their division pretty early, but they're having trouble the last few weeks. The AFC East is still tied, though it's only a two-way tie rather than the three-way tie we had at the beginning of last weekend. It seems to be a battle between the Patriots and the Dolphins. The New York Jets could still get in there but it's a long-shot. The NFC North will also be decided tomorrow. One of these teams will go to the Super Bowl. If your team goes to the Super Bowl, you'll want to be there. If your team doesn't make it to the Super Bowl, you should still go out to Tampa and see a great game! Get your Super Bowl tickets today and you'll get to check it out!
As the year draws towards its end, it's natural to look both backward and forward. On one hand, you can fondly reminisce about the memories of last year, last month, or even last week. On the other hand, you can look optimistically towards the new year, with high hopes of change, fortune, or what have you. However, it's important not to lose the present...which is especially true for many plays and musicals. It wasn't the best year for the stage business and a lot is going to change during the course of the next year. New shows will be replacing the failing (or even just older) shows. Therefore, while you still have the holidays off to be with your family, this is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your loved ones enjoying a show fit for any age. Shows like the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and A Christmas Carol are seasonal plays that would make a perfect outing for anyone. However, if you have another show in mind, take a look at our great selection of family tickets and find seats to any major stage production.
