Bill Cosby Information

Dr. William H. Cosby, popularly known as Bill Cosby, was born on July 12, 1937 in Philadelphia. He is a comedian, actor, television producer, and writer.

In 1956, Cosby quit high school and joined the United States Navy. While there, he passed a high school equivalency exam, so when he was discharged, he studied college in Temple University. In 1962, Cosby appeared at the Gaslight Cafe in New York. It was a success, and he stopped attending school to pursue a career in comedy. In his later years, he did finish college and had his master’s and doctorate degrees.

Cosby appeared in 1963 on The Tonight Show where his humor gained popularity. In 1965, Cosby landed the role as Alexander Scott in I Spy, becoming the first African American in a weekly television series. I Spy ran for three years, and Cosby received three Emmy awards for his performance.

After I Spy, Cosby had starred in his own shows, beginning with Bill Cosby Specials from 1968 to 1971 and 1975. The Bill Cosby Show ran from 1969 to 1971, followed by The New Bill Cosby Show from 1972 to 1973, then by Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids from 1972 to 1979, and finally by The New Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids from 1979 to 1984. His most successful and popular show was The Cosby Show, which ran from 1984 to 1992.

Cosby’s style in comedy focuses on everyday life, appealing to many people. He is a successful stand-up comedian, and he still continues to hold shows in different locations.
