Dana Carvey Background Information

Dana Carvey is best known for his role as Garth in the movie Wayne’s World, spun off from the Saturday Night Live skit. He has said that the personality of Garth was based loosely on Carvey’s brother, Brad Carvey, who actually engineered the Video Toaster.
His first role in the industry was a small part in the 1981 horror film, Halloween II. He moved on to co-star on the television sitcom, One of the Boys, in 1982 along with Mickey Rooney, Nathan Lane and Meg Ryan. In 1984, he appeared in This Is Spinal Tap. In 1986, he received his claim to fame when he joined the cast of Saturday Night Live. His best character was The Church Lady. In 1993, he left Saturday Night Live to join Mike Meyers in the Wayne’s World movie. A sequel was also filmed and released in 1993. There are rumors on a third Wayne’s World movie but they haven’t been proven. In 1993 he won an Emmy for “Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.” He has received six Emmy nominations. He most recently did his second HBO special, Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies in June 2008.
