Lewis Black Background Information

Lewis Black is becoming very well known and climbing the ladder of fame and success. Black is often accredited for his statement concerning Republicans that they are a party that has some bad ideas while the Democrats are a political party lacking of ideas.

Black has become extremely popular for his excellent performances. But performing is not Black’s only talent he is also well known for stand-up, acting, as well as writing. In addition to being, able to put on a good show Black is a very hard working person who performs in excess of 200 nights per year. Lewis has sold out a long list of audiences including, the MGM Grand.

Black began his life in the suburbs of D.C but his growing up took place in Silver Spring, Maryland. When Lewis was twelve he attended his initial play and this is where his passion for the theatre began. Lewis began his pursuit in theatre as a career. Black would later earn degrees from Yale Drama School and the North Carolina University.

In 1996 Black began to make more television appearances. Lewis is most well known for his work on Comedy Central, which include The Daily Show. These appearances are what earned him Best male standup in 2001 American Comedy Awards. Lewis’s hard work and exposure landed him a record deal and in 2001 he released his initial CD entitled the White Album. In 2006 and 2007 Lewis received 2 consecutive Grammy nominations. In 2007, he won a Grammy for the Best Album in Comedy.

Even though Black was already on a busy schedule, he found in 2005 he found the time to write a book entitled Nothings Sacred. Black was ranked in the Times of NY Best-Seller Listing. Black is in the process of working on a second book entitled Riverhead Books, the release is due sometime in 2008.

Lewis is not only a hard worker but a man with a big heart. With all of his successes Black still finds the time to give support to several charities. These charities include the Ron Black Scholarship Fund, Autism Speaks, as well as Rusty Magee Clinic.

Lewis presently lives in Manhattan and has a residency in North Carolina. Lewis still manages to work with UNC students in theatre, writing, and performing. During his spare time Lewis finds recreation in golf even though his skills could use some improvements.
