Ray Romano Background Information

Popularly known for his show Everybody Loves Raymund, Raymond Romano was born and raised in Queens, New York on December 21, 1957 . He majored in accounting at Queens College in New York. He is married to wife Anna Scarpulla, with whom he has a daughter and three sons. Even as a child, Romano had dreams of using his comic talents. At the age of 16 Ray formed the comedy troupe No Talent which delighted many audiences. In the next few years, as a student in Queens College, he took odd jobs so he would be able to develop his comedic skills on the late-night comedy circuit.

In 1987, he decided to go for comedy full-time after winning a comedy contest for a radio station. In 1991, he had one of his dreams come true when he performed before television host Johnny Carson. This was followed by more and more television appearances, and in 1995 he guested on Late Night with David Letterman. After his appearance on the show, Letterman discussed ideas of developing a sitcom with him.

Everybody Loves Raymond finally premiered on September 13, 1996, which became a hit for both audience and critics. The show earned multiple nominations for many awards including Emmy and Golden Globe. The show continued to be a success through the years, and eventually it branched out into other arenas. On June 1999, the show recorded a performance in Carnegie Hall, which earned them yet again another nomination, this time for the Grammy Awards. Romano himself is an Emmy Award winner and a Golden Globe nominee. He is also known for his roles as Manfred “Manny” in Ice Age and Ice Age : The Meltdown, and Handy Harrison in Welcome to Mooseport. His show Everybody Loves Raymond ended in 2005.
