Anathello Background Information
A popular indie band Anathallo is originally from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Now based in Chicago, Illinois, the group uses a wide variety of musical instruments, like guitars, piano, horns, drums, bells, and even some unconventional objects, such as chains, pipes, velcro strips, and more. The group has released several records through Selah Records, one vinyl release with Javelins through Potential Getaway Driver, and several completely independent releases.
The group’s title, Anathallo, is derived from a Greek word that means “to renew, refresh, bloom again.

The current members of the band include Matt Joynt (on Vocals, Guitar, Auxiliary Percussion, and Piano), Bret Wallin (on Trombone, Auxiliary Percussion, and Vocals), Jeremiah Johnson (on Drums and Vocals), Jamie Macleod (on Flugelhorn, Auxiliary Percussion, and Vocals), Danny Bracken (on Guitar, Auxiliary Percussion, and Vocals), Erica Froman (on Vocals, Auxiliary Percussion, Clarinet, and Autoharp), and Seth Walker (on Bass and Vocals).
The band’s discography counts seven albums. In 2001, the group released Luminous Luminescence in the Atlas Position. The following year Anathallo released Sparrows LP, and then A Holiday at the Sea EP in 2003, Hymns EP in 2004, 'Entropy' Split One-Sided 12" with Javelins in 2005, Floating World and Anathallogy in 2006.
The album Floating World is a CD that is based upon a Japanese Fairy Tale. It was actually the first full-length record by the band, self-released in 2006. The name of the album is the English translation of the Japanese concept of Ukiyo.
