Rock band Angels & Airwaves was formed in 2005 by Tom DeLonge, former lead vocalist of Blink-182. The band's current members consist of Tom DeLonge (lead vocals and rhythm guitar); Matt Wachter (backing vocals, bass and keyboard); David Kennedy (lead guitar) and Adam Willard (drums). David Kennedy is best-known for being in the band ‘Over My Dead Body' while drummer Adam Willard is formerly from ‘Offspring'. Matt Wachter, former 30 Seconds to Mars bassist replaced original bassist Ryan Sinn in 2007. more
Blink-182 had a break from recording and performing in February 2005 and rumours soon started circulating about their future. This in turn led to Tom keeping a very low profile and concentrating on his new material. He stepped out of the limelight completely and did not give an interview for six months. It was not until September 2005 that he gave an exclusive interview to Kerrang Magazine where he revealed his plans for his new band, Angels & Airwaves. Tom began writing the band's first album, We Don't Need To Whisper, during the break from Blink-182. Their first single was called ‘The Adventure' and was released on May 18th 2006. Their album was released a few days later on May 23rd and went gold as well as reaching number 4 on the Billboard 200.
Their second album, I-Empire, was released in November 2007 and reached number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart in its first week and was number one on the iTunes Top Albums chart. In September 2007, their first single from this album, ‘Everything's Magic', reached number 3 on the iTunes rock chart, weeks before it was even released into high street shops. Angels & Airwaves are not content to stop at two albums. This year they are also planning on releasing a documentary called Start the Machine which will include music from their albums and if that isn't enough to keep the band members busy, they are also set to release a feature film called I-Empire. less
