Prince, Taylor Swift Set to Perform at Billboard Music Awards 2013
The performers list for the 2013 edition of the Billboard Music Awards has been announced, causing more than a few popular music fans to have reason to rejoice. So far this year’s most highly anticipated set will come from 2013 Billboard Icon Award winner, the unrivalled funk legend Prince. The annual Icon Award honors one musician per year for creative achievements in music, and Prince will undoubtedly delight the audience with selections from his revered discography, which spans over 30 years.
The remainder of this year’s major performers represents the country’s most successful solo musicians: pop country princess Taylor Swift, R&B artist Miguel, vocal powerhouse Bruno Mars, and teen heartthrob Justin Bieber. Each of these four artists—along with country group The Band Perry and Miami rapper Pitbull—has also been nominated as a finalist for the brand new Billboard Milestone Award, the only award in the entire ceremony that will be voted on by Billboard fans. Every other winner—in each genre’s album, artist, and song of the year—will be determined based on the results of the 2012 Billboard charts. The rest of these nominations have not yet been announced, but should be released in the coming weeks.
As per recent tradition, Billboard again elected to hire a comedian as host, and this year’s honor goes to Saturday Night Live veteran, Tracy Morgan, who will take the stage fresh off his final season on the award-winning sitcom, 30 Rock. The Billboard Music Awards will roll out the red carpet at the Las Vegas MGM Grand on May 19.
