Boz Scaggs Background Information
Boz Scaggs is a well known American song writer, singer and guitarist. His father was a traveling salesman and the family moved from place to place until they finally settled down in Plano which is a town in the northern part of Dallas. Though his original name is William Royce Scaggs, it was a school mate from his St. Marks’s Dallas private school who nicknamed him “Bosley”. This name stuck with him and now he is popularly known as Boz. In his school days, Boz had the opportunity to interact with Steve Miller and in 1959 he worked with his band which was called “The Marksmen”.
more After schooling, Saggs relocated to London and joined the rhythm and blues group like The Wigs and Mother Earth.
It was in Sweden that Scaggs recorded his very first solo album titled “Boz”. Boz returned to U.S and appeared for the first two Steven Miller albums and was widely recognized for his contribution. This gave Boz Scaggs a big break as he managed to bag a contract with Atlantic records in 1968. But this album, though critically acclaimed, did not go well with the masses and the next album on Columbia Records also met the same fate.
In 1976 Boz Scaggs joined hands with session musicians and came up with a major hit album titled Silk Degrees. It climbed the number two position on the music charts and claimed number one position in other countries. The success of the Silk degrees album showed on the tremendous response he received for the concert shows he did worldwide. The next album 1977 Down Two Then Left, did not provide the same commercial success as the album Silk Degrees. The albums that he released in 1980 and 1981 were great hits and then his career graph began to slide down considerably. Boz Scaggs has not released many albums since but continues to perform in musical concerts across the globe.
