Brooks & Dunn is a popular country music singer-songwriter duo from the United States. The band debuted in 1991 as Brooks & Dunn (consisting of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn). Since the year the group was formed, they have won the Vocal Duo Award of the Country Music Association each single year between 1992 and 2006 (with the exception of 2000, when Southern Rock duo Montgomery Gentry received the award). Other notable honors include the CMA Album of the Year award for their 1994 album and the Entertainer of the Year gong in 1996. As of 2004, the band had won nineteen CMA honors; and remains the foremost duo in their genre.
The duo’s music covers the wide range of contemporary country music. Their hits that were at the top of the charts have included everything from the ballad "The Long Goodbye" (of Ronan Keating) through "Ain't Nothing About You," written by Rivers Rutherford, to the gospel music-influenced "Believe." Brooks & Dunn is associated with being pioneers of the line dance mania of the ‘90s. One of the hits of Brooks & Dunn, titled "Boot Scootin' Boogie" is one of the most emblematic of this style. It is the video for this song was made at the country dance club, Tulsa City Limits in Tulsa, Oklahoma State.
Both members of the group sing, write, and play guitar. They write or co-write a vast majority of their material. Their self-penned successes include the 2004 hit entitled "Red Dirt Road," which the band members wrote together. Both musicians have served as songwriters for other artists as well. Ronnie Dunn, for instance, co-wrote country star Toby Keith's hit "Don't Leave (I Think I Love You)". It appeared on his 2003 album called Shock'n Y'all. Ronnie’s vocal performances have tended to be recorded as radio singles. However, only one of the band’s several no. one hits, entitled "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone" has featured Brooks on lead vocals. In fact, the last duo’s single to feature Kix on lead vocals was 1999 song "South Of Santa Fe".
The band is famous for their high-energy stage performances. Their recent tours featured Australian country singer Keith Urban, Montgomery Gentry, and Gretchen Wilson, a successful country newcomer. Their tour of 2005 featured the famous band Big and Rich. In 2006, the Brooks & Dunn opened for the Rolling Stones at their Omaha, Nebraska concert. The same year, they toured with Sara Evans.
The songs of Brooks & Dunn were used by President George W. Bush as his official campaign songs in his election and re-election campaigns. In 2000, the then Texas Governor chose the hit of the ‘90s, entitled "Hard Workin' Man," and in 2004, the President selected the song "Only in America." Both members of the duo supported the President's re-election campaign, singing at a Republican rally featuring Laura Bush on the eve of the elections.
