For more than fifty years, John "Bucky" Pizzarelli has been one of those musicians, who have kept mainstream and traditional jazz music alive.
Bucky Pizzarelli learned to play banjo and guitar when he was a young boy. In the early ‘50s Bucky joined the staff of NBC, where he spent many years of his life. He played in the Doc Severinson Band on the Tonight Show.
For two years, Pizzarelli toured with the Three Suns trio, and then he returned to New York to work in the recording studios. Pizzarelli was in high demand to provide background for other musicians. Being one of the era's most solid rhythm players, Bucky played and toured with Benny Goodman. The musician also led his own trio and recorded duos with Bud Freeman, Zoot Sims, Stephane Grappelli, and John Grappelli.
Pizzarelli plays a seven-string electric guitar. The extra guitar string allows him to play a bass line to his own solos. Bucky Pizzarelli is famous for his exceptional solo performances on the electric instrument, as well as for his proficiency as a classical guitarist.
His wonderful recordings began to appear in the ‘70s (like Green Guitar Blues). Pizzarelli established his own pattern: throughout his music career, he played and recorded some of the great historic guitar compositions from the ‘30s.
