Carrie Marie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983. She is a Grammy Award winning pop country music singer. She won the 4th season of the popular show American Idol. Since then, she has become a multi-platinum selling recording singer. The performer’s debut album, entitled Some Hearts, was certified quintuple platinum. It is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. It also became the top selling debut album of Idol winner or contestant. Carrie is the first American Idol winner to receive honors at all three main music awards in the same season (2006-2007). The honors include one American Music Award, two Grammy Awards (including Best New Artist), and five Billboard Music Awards.
In 2004, Carrie auditioned for the competition in St. Louis. When her initial audition was broadcast in early 2005, many predicted that she would win this competition. In March 2005, Carrie sang a great rendition of the no. one 80's rock smash Alone by Heart. The judge Simon Cowell then predicted that Carrie would win the competition and outsell all previous winners. While on the competition, Carrie gained many loyal fans.

The singer’s debut album, titled Some Hearts, hit store shelves in the mid-November, 2005. It entered the Billboard 200 chart with 315 thousand copies sold. The big first week sales of the record made it no. one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and the greatest debut of any country singer since the advent of the SoundScan system in 1991. The album has since been certified Quintuple Platinum by the RIAA. It also became the fastest-selling debut country album in the history during the entire SoundScan era. The record’s second single, titled "Jesus, Take The Wheel" was released on radio in October 2005. It received much airplay debuting at no. 39 on the Billboard Country Chart in its 1st week, thus setting a new record. Eventually, the single reached no. one for six consecutive weeks.
In November 2006, Carrie went into the American Music Awards with two nominations. That night she left the ceremony with the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award beating out Chamillionare and the Pussycat Dolls. Underwood was also nominated for Best Female Country Artist, however did not win in this category.
The singer attended the "2006 Billboard Music Awards" in early December 2006, and received five awards. Carrie won the coveted Album of the Year, New Country Artist, Female Country Artist, Top 200 Female Artist of the Year, and Country Album of the Year.
In April 2007, her newest single, entitled "Wasted" reached no. one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs.
