The Chicago Blues Festival will be held from June 7 to 10, 2007. Again and again, the festival earns the title of the world's largest free concert of its kind. The festival will open daily at 11:00 am with various musical performances until 9:30 pm. It will be held in Grant Park on six stages featuring a plethora of legendary musicians.
This year the Chicago Blues Festival celebrates its 24th anniversary. It will pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of two famous piano players, Albert Luandrew, better known as Sunnyland Slim and Albert Ammons. The festival will host several Piano Summits and Boogie Woogie Stomps. Many followers, who strive not only to keep piano music alive, but also perpetuate Chicago Blues as the worldwide icon of Blues music, will also take part in the festival.
The festival will also mark birthday celebrations of two Blues icons, as 2007 marks the 80th birthday of the famous Big Jay McNeely. It will also pay tribute to Howlin' Wolf, who would have celebrated his and 97th birthday. The great musician will be remembered with a birthday cake and a party that will be organized by his family, friends, and former band mates.
The 2007 Blues Festival will feature Chicago's great harmonica player and "Sons of Blues" bandleader, Billy Branch, who will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the group's founding.
