Daft Punk is a duo consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Paris house musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. The band is considered one of the most successful electronic music collaborations of all times. They have had great success both in album sales and in critical acclaim. After the duo reached significant popularity in the late 90s house movement in France, many other musicians such as Cassius, Air, and Dimitri from Paris began receiving a similar amount of attention.
In March 2005, the band released the record, entitled Human After All. The singles off this record included “Human After All”, “Technologic”, “Robot Rock”, and “The Prime Time of Your Life”. The official statement from the duo concerning the record was “we believe that Human After All speaks for itself”.
On April 4, 2006, Daft Punk released anthology CD/DVD Musique Vol. 1 1993-2005. The record contains new music videos for “Robot Rock (Maximum Overdrive)” and “The Prime Time of Your Life”. They also released a remix album entitled Human After All: Remixes.
In May 2006, the duo premiered their first directed film, called Daft Punk's Electroma at the Cannes Film Festival sidebar Director's Fortnight. It does not include the band’s own music, which has become a first for the group considering their previous DVD and film releases (Interstella 5555 for Discovery and D.A.F.T. for Homework).
At the beginning of 2006, the duo announced plans for a number of special summer concerts. On April 29, the band performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where they received an exultant reception for their first performance in the United States since 1997. The duo has announced a world tour called Alive 2007.
