Dan Zanes Background Information
Dan Zanes is a member of the popular ‘80s group, The Del Fuegos. He is currently the front man of the Grammy winning band called Dan Zanes and Friends.
The band played in lofts, clubs, barns, bars, college dining halls, small art galleries, auditoriums, fraternity houses, gymnasiums, and, finally, big theaters. In 1984, Rolling Stone named the group “Best New Band”. Once, Bruce Springsteen jumped on stage to perform “Hang on Sloopy” together with the band. With the Del Fuegos, Dan made several albums, including The Longest Day (in 1984), Boston, Mass (in 1985), Stand Up (in 1987), Smoking in the Fields (in 1989).

Dan Zanes organized his band calling it the Rocket Ship Revue, and started making a full-length homemade album. Sheryl Crow, Suzanne Vega, and Simon Kirke, the drummer for Bad Company were helping him.
In 2001, Dan Zanes released the album Rocket Ship Beach, which became a hit. The New York Times Magazine called the record cool. Suzanne Vega and Sheryl Crow made guest appearances on the record. The following album, Family Dance is composed of dance songs from a wide variety of musical traditions. The third album, entitled Night Time!, is a little bit more mellow; working on it, Dan Zanes collaborated with John Doe, Aimee Mann, Dar Williams, Lou Reed, and other notable musicians.
In 2003, Dan Zanes released the 4th album in the family series, entitled House Party, which is a rambunctious twenty-song collection with a diverse instrumentation. This album was nominated for a Grammy in the Musical Album for Children category.
In 2007, the musician received the Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children for the record Catch That Train!
