Daughtry Background Information

Post-grunge band Daughtry was formed by Chris Daughtry, former American Idol contestant, in 2006. The band’s self-titled debut album was released in late November 2006. The record reached no. 1 on the Billboard 200 and outsold Idol winner Taylor Hicks’ debut effort. Over two million copies of the album were sold. The record is also the fastest-selling debut rock album in the history of Soundscan.

Chris Daughtry is a singer and songwriter himself. He has collaborated with many other songwriters, including Fuel’s Carl Bell, Brent Smith of Shinedown, Live’s Ed Kowalczyk, SR-71 singer Mitch Allan, Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, Brad Arnold of 3 Doors Down, and Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.

The first single from the record, entitled “It's Not Over”, debuted on the radio in early December 2006, after it was delayed from a planned September release. The self-titled debut album produced by Howard Benson was released in November 2006. The song became very successful, shooting up the Billboard Hot 100 reaching No. Four and hitting the top Three in some other music charts.

“Home” is the second single from the album. It is currently at no. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, after debuting at no. 83 several weeks before its official release to radio. Another track from the record, titled “What I Want”, was released on April 23, 2007. This composition features Slash on lead guitars. Currently, it is in the top 25 on Rock Radio.

The band Daughtry will be supporting the popular Nickelback on their tour that will start in summer 2007.
