In 1996 the Dave Matthews Band worked in conjunction with federal authorities to crack down on stores that sold illegal recordings of his live shows. The campaign was a success as the government was able to arrest several companies that were the source of the illegal discs. The Dave Matthews Band’s popularity stems from their live shows which are know to be emotional and electric, and the Dave Matthews Band thought it was unfair for people to experience the show without buying a ticket. To further combat the bootleggers, the Dave Matthews Band released an official live album in the fall of 1997 which was an immediate success, proving the success of the bootleggers before the crack down. The Dave Matthews Band’s Live at the Red Rocks sold over a million copies in half a year. Live at the Red Rocks paved the way for 1998 release of the Dave Matthews Band’s “Before These Crowded Streets” which also eventually went platinum. Following that the Dave Matthews Band released another live show, Listener Supported, a year later which also sold nearly a million copies. In 2001, DMB released two more albums, “Everyday” and “Live In Chicago.” Both albums continued the growth of fans across the world and in 2002 the band released “Busted Stuff” and “Live at Folsom Field.” The next couple of years brought more DMB album releases, most of them being live shows, most called “Live Trax.” His most recent album is set to release July 1st, 2008 and will be volume 12 of the Live Trax collection. Dave Matthews Band has been taking the music world by storm when he entered back in 1994, and based on reviews of his latest concerts, they have no signs of slowing down.
