David Benoit is a popular jazz fusion and contemporary jazz pianist, composer and producer. The musician has been nominated for five Grammy Awards.
Benoit’s debut album called Freedom at Midnight became his biggest seller and most popular recording. Benoit has always said that it was his favorite album to make, because it was when "everything came together," as he once stated during an interview.
David Benoit dedicated one of his albums to Bill Evans, his major influence in music (the 1992 album Letter to Evan). Many of David’s compositions employed a string section, most notably on his American Landscape and Orchestral Stories recordings. He once stated that it was his dream to make a symphonic album.
In 2000, after the death of Charles M. Schulz (the creator of “Peanuts”), the musician released a memorial album named Here's To You, Charlie Brown: 50 Great Years. The chorus group Take 6, guitarist Mark Antoine and trumpeter Chris Botti were the collaborators. David Benoit also created the music for “Peanuts” in the later specials.
David Benoit is a close friend of Russ Freeman, The Rippingtons' guitarist and leadsman. They regularly appeared on each other's records. They have also released two collaborative records The Benoit/Freeman Project and The Benoit/Freeman Project 2.
