Dr. John is the stage name of a colorful pianist, singer, and songwriter Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. His music combines, blues, boogie-woogie, and rock and roll.
In 2005, Dr. John performed Fats Domino's "Walkin' to New Orleans" to close the Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast. In November, he released a four-song EP, Sippiana Hericane. On February 5, 2006, the musician joined fellow New Orleans native Aaron Neville, Aretha Franklin, and a 150-member choir to perform the national anthem at Super Bowl XL.

Dr. John has fans among many famous musicians as well. Van Morrison, for instance, mentions Dr. John on his 1995 album Days Like This (the song "Russian Roulette"). Musician Jools Holland is also Dr. John’s fan, who regularly features him on Later with Jools Holland, which is his weekly musical show.
