Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, Elton John attended the Royal Academy of Music in London. He started his first band, Bluesology in 1961. In 1967 he paired up with Bernie Taupin and in 1968 they became staff songwriters for the DJM Music Label. Bernie would write lyrics and Elton would compose the music. Combined with producer Gus Dudgeon, they composed 14 albums between 1970-76. Elton John performed with John Lennon at what became Lennon’s final concert in 1974 at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
