Elvis Perkins’s trio of musicians, called Dearland, is known for walking the line between delicate restraint and raucous performance styles. Its members have joined many acts on stage as a vibrant horn section that is known as "Dearland Horns". It includes Brigham on alto saxophone, Wyndham on trombone, and Nick on clarinet. The musicians joined Kool and the Gang's "Celebration", My Morning Jacket for Lionel Richie's "All Night Long", and Jacket favorites "Dancefloors" and "Easy Morning Rebel" at the Jacket's New Years Eve show 2007 at the Fillmore in San Francisco. The band continued to play with My Morning Jacket on the tour that followed the New Year. Jim James once called the band “the best horn section on this side of the Mississippi”. The group has also frequently joined Cold War Kids on stage, most notably on August 6, 2007, at Madison Square Garden, when Cold War Kids opened for British band Muse.
Elvis Perkins' song entitled "Moon Woman II" appeared on the Fast Food Nation soundtrack. "While You Were Sleeping" was featured in a season Four episode of The O.C..
