Aside from her work as a solo artist and bandleader, she is also a songwriter and duet partner. Emmylou Harris has worked with many big-name artists. In 2004, for instance, Emmylou was leading the Sweet Harmony Traveling Revue tour together with David Rawlings, Buddy Miller, Gillian Welch, and Patty Griffin.
The following year, Emmylou Harris was working together with Conor Oberst on Bright Eyes' release, I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. Then the musician joined Elvis Costello during several days of his tour across the United States. She performed alongside Elvis Costello and his group on several numbers each night. Together they recorded a version of Elvis's song, entitled "The Scarlet Tide", from the soundtrack of the film "Cold Mountain". Later, a single-disc retrospective of Harris's career was released entitled The Very Best of Emmylou Harris: Heartaches and Highways (on the Rhino Entertainment label). Emmylou Harris has appeared as a guest vocalist on the acclaimed Prairie Wind, the most recent release by Neil Young. Emmylou Harris has also appeared in the Jonathan Demme documentary-concert movie Neil Young: Heart of Gold, which was released in 2006.
