Farm Aid originally started in 1985 down in Champaign, Illinois as a benefit concert for farmers and their families in the United States. After the first Farm Aid was held, Congress passed the Agricultural Credit Act of 1987, which saved thousands of farms from foreclosure and thousands of families from going hungry. The annual benefit concert is still held today working to make the public aware of the importance of family farms and the potential crisis they may face. The board of directors includes Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, and Neil Young who also perform at the concert, thus always ensuring a star-studded line-up.
