About the Funk Festival

The Funk Festival in San Francisco in 2001 attracted 3000 citizens in spite of it being conducted just about 2 months after the 9/11 disaster. The Festival's “theme nights” let people understand the diverse branches of the Funk tree and notice how funk is the origin that joins them together.

The Funk Festival was created to rejoice the wealthy cultural legacy of Old School Music and has turned into a celebration of human expression. The mission of Funk Festival is to give the African-American community access to means of expression that encourage social consciousness, personal achievement and positive amusement.
