Gavin DeGraw, an American rock singer and songwriter was born on February 4, 1977. He spent his early years in South Fallsbury, New York. His dad worked as a guard for a local prison and is mother a detoxification specialist as DeGraw had mentioned in one of his songs “I Don’t Want to Be”. His elder brother Joey was also a well known singer and songwriter. DeGraw attended the Berkley College of Music in the same year that artist John Mayer attended it.
Initially DeGraw performed in Manhattan clubs drawing his fans to these small clubs. His big break came when his song “I Don’t Want to Be” was selected as the prominent song for One Tree Hill, a teen drama. His music videos include “Chariot”, “Follow Through” and “I Don’t Want to Be”.
DeGraw’s prominence has increased since 2004 making him tour other states. He has appeared in many television shows like Last Call with Carson Daly, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. He also played cameo roles in What I Like About You, Dead Like Me and American Dreams. He has toured with music groups such as Barenaked Ladies, The Allman Brothers Band, Jason Mraz, Butterfly Boucher and Maroon 5.
DeGraw returned to his studio on September 1, 2006 to record his next album. His new album is scheduled to be released on April 1, 2008. His first single “In Love with a Girl” was let go on the 14th of January 2008.
