A Hard Road to Success ? Gloria Trevi

If a Mexican Madonna would ever take its stride, it would surely be personified Gloria Trevi. This Latin star’s ticket to fame is her cutting-edge approach as she entered the musical scene back in the 80’s up until the 90’s.

To date, her controversy remains to be her biggest ticket towards popularity. Gloria Trevi entered notorious fame by being dragged into shocking news of some sex scandal. In Mexico, law authorities have accused Gloria Trevi and her ex-husband (who was also her manager) Sergio Andrade of holding adolescent girls as prisoners to exploit them and have them abused sexually. This media ticket was heavily publicized an can be likened to the negative fame gathered by O.J Simpson’s trial.

Such a notorious ticket did spell fame for Gloria Trevi. However, all of these unfortunate scandals, accusations, and breaking news dragged her career into controversy and caused her real musical talent to become overshadowed. Although her music sometimes takes on a sociopolitical undertone and even at times provocative, such unique ticket was pushed aside because of the many mysteries surrounding Trevi’s life.

Ever since her childhood years, Gloria Trevi was known to have a rather difficult growing up years. She was born of a poor family and her parents allegedly mistreated her before they divorced as husband and wife when she was only 10 years old. However, Gloria still continued to ticket herself into the world of the arts and started to play the piano and learn ballet during her pre-teen years.

Apart from Latin music, Gloria also grew fond of British and American rock. She also drew influence from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Janis Joplin, and the Doors. When she reached 12 years old, Gloria Trevi finally decided to leave her home to go to Mexico City and pursue her passion for the arts.

As she stayed in Mexico, life did not prove to be any better at first. She got into jobs like selling tacos and even holding aerobics classes just to get by each day. As she turned 14, she eventually met Sergio Andrade who later on became her husband. The latter was already 28 at that time and he was responsible for giving Trevi her ticket into the world of recording. She first became a part of the group “Boquitas Pintada” before embarking on a solo career eventually. Even as a solo artist, she still had Andrade by her side to mentor her as a solo performer.
